Project Leader / Manager / Head Coder / Monkey Handler / etc.

I work on pERP full time. It's original design was dictated by those who sign my paycheque. None of the other ERP systems would work for us, unless we wanted to spend millions.

pERP is Open Sourced because there's a lot of work to do, and I can't do it all myself.

About the reasoning behind pERP

I work for a company that manufactures hot tubs, and a whole range of leisure products and accessories. With a variety of features and colors that can be chosen by the customer, we have several different tub lines, each with several different models, styles and jet configurations. This works out to several hundred different combinations. Thus, the focus of pERP is on manufacturing, with support for customized product. If a customer wants a tub with Midnight Black, that needs to be handled all the way through. The trick is, it's the same tub, just one part different. It's redundant to have a different bill of materials for each color.

We have several different manufacturing facilities, and warehouses in Canada, UK, Estonia, France and Australia that will eventually be tied in, and someday we'd like to offer the individual dealers a Point Of Sale system that can tie in to our systems.

We are currently installing wireless network access throughout our main manufacturing plant, and will be installing bar-code scanners at each work center, so we can have real-time data about where product is. This may also be used in costing, so we can know how much time is spent on a particular product.

pERP needs to:

  • handle our entire product line
  • track all our stock (parts and finished product) in each of our multiple locations
  • Handle customized manufacturing to customer specifications
  • Pricing in multiple currencies for multiple different areas for different groups of customers
  • Everything else
